About Lynsey
Lynsey Barron is an experienced attorney practicing in the areas of criminal defense, civil rights, investigations, and appeals. She is a Chambers ranked attorney in White Collar Crime and Government Investigations. She has also been recognized by Super Lawyers and Best Lawyers in criminal defense and appeals.
Lynsey was an Assistant United States Attorney in Atlanta from 2015 to 2019 where she was assigned to the Economic Crimes Section and the Public Corruption Section. She prosecuted complex white collar crimes including tax fraud, securities fraud, and healthcare fraud, as well as crimes involving public integrity and corruption. She has significant trial and appellate experience, and she has presented several oral arguments to the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. She also has an active investigations practice in both governmental and nongovernmental contexts.
Before founding Barron Ward, Lynsey ran her own law practice and was a partner at the law firm Miller & Martin PLLC where she headed up the firm’s white collar criminal defense practice. She spent several years in Jones Day’s Atlanta office, where she focused her practice on white collar criminal defense and commercial litigation. In addition to her Big Law experience, Lynsey was in-house counsel for United Parcel Service (UPS), where she managed compliance, investigations, data privacy, and cyber security. She has significant experience managing internal investigations, ethics and compliance issues including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. (CFIUS), and international trade regulation and compliance.
Lynsey is also a Visiting Assistant Professor of Practice at Emory University School of Law where she teaches White Collar Crime, Federal Criminal Practice, and Sentencing Law and Policy. She clerked for Judge Beverly B. Martin on the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
Before becoming an attorney, Lynsey had a career in politics. She was a Legislative Assistant for a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, and she also served as the Staff Director for the Congressional Caucus for Women’s Issues. She was a federal lobbyist for the American Association of University Women, where she lobbied on education policy and civil rights issues, and then for the March of Dimes where she lobbied on health care access issues.
Lynsey graduated with honors from Emory University School of Law, where she received a full-tuition scholarship as a Robert Woodruff Fellow. She holds a Master of Arts in Political Science from the University of Oklahoma and is All But Dissertation (ABD). She graduated from Berry College with undergraduate degrees in Political Science and Religion.
Public Service and Community Involvement
Indigent Defense and Civil Rights
Lynsey is dedicated to public service, and she has an active indigent defense and civil rights litigation practice. She serves on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia’s Criminal Justice Act panel, where she takes court-appointed cases where defendants cannot afford to hire a lawyer. She is on the board of the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office Conviction Integrity Unit, where she meets monthly with a team to reconsider questionable convictions and disproportionate sentences. She is also on the Board of Directors for the Federal Defender Program for the Northern District of Georgia.
Public Service and Volunteerism
Lynsey believes that with liberty and freedom come duty and responsibility, and she takes seriously the call to give back to the community. She volunteers her time and money in support of organizations that support the most vulnerable among us.
